Pure Katan silk woven in Varanasi with a full-body antique zari jaal and a broad temple-motif pallu. Each drape takes a master weaver close to three weeks on the loom.
This rani pink Banarasi is woven on a pit loom in the Madanpura quarter of Varanasi, using pure Katan silk in both warp and weft. The body carries an all-over kadhwa jaal in antique gold zari, while the pallu opens into a broad temple border framed by a meenakari floral band.
The drape is supple enough for a full day of wear and holds pleats without starching. It arrives with a matching unstitched blouse piece of 0.8 metres, a certificate of handloom origin, and our cotton storage sleeve.
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in the cotton sleeve and refold along a new line every few months to protect the zari.
Wore this for my sister's reception. The zari catches light beautifully in photographs and the silk falls without any stiffness. Blouse piece matched exactly.
Colour is a deeper pink than the photos suggest, which I liked. Custom stitching was accurate to the measurements I sent and arrived in nine days.
